We work with community organisers and outreach service providers to offer Leadership and Wellbeing Trainings to program beneficiaries - including, but not limited to survivors of violence or trafficking, refugees,  folks experiencing incarceration or homelessness, and members of other marginalised and at-risk communities - that focus on establishing self and community care by developing a personal toolkit of resources for managing stress and anxiety.

These trainings include:

  • understanding, noticing, and healing from burnout and compassion fatigue

  • reflective practice and community discussion space to share experience and bravely express any difficulties in maintaining the work

  • supporting personal and organisational wellbeing by maintaining a personal practice of self care and learning to offer the practices to others

  • finding your voice and stepping in to the seat of leadership

  • establishing healing spaces in communities and sharing the toolkit of practices with others

  • development of a safe community of practice

Our goal is to make this work accessible to all, regardless of financial situation. We offer this work free to organisations, and will work together to fundraise as a team to cover all  costs. Investments from the organization are always helpful but not required.

All programming is implemented in accordance with rigid ethical standards, particularly with regards to COVID-19.

If you are interested in offering training in leadership and wellbeing skills to your community, get in touch!

The  process for launching a new program is:

  1. Meet with local community leaders and organisation staff

  2. Complete a needs assessment to determine demand and specific needs of the community

  3. Follow national, state and local guidelines surrounding COVID precautions. As a general rule, all OMPowerment team members are vaccinated, masked, and regularly tested for COVID.

  4. Launch programming per needs assessment observations,  following one of two streams:

a. For organizations that are already offering yoga and/or mindfulness classes to their communities: develop and implement leadership training with the community

b. For organizations that have not been offering yoga and/or mindfulness classes to their communities: offer an 8 week series of trauma informed yoga classes to the community to raise awareness of the work. At the end of the series, offer leadership training to all interested.

An organisation or community is typically eligible to receive this free training if the following key requirements are met:

Demand

  • Is there a demand for the work in this community?

  • What does the community need and want? Can you meet these specific needs through tailored programming?

Access

  • Is there a central community coordinator with whom we can organize the program?

  • Is there a coordinator or staff member who can help to ensure that the trainees are offered space to practice and teach after we leave?

  • Is there a venue available with easy access to participants?

We are always looking for new locations and communities to work with. If you are involved in a project or resident in a community where our work can make an impact on the lives of others, please get in touch so that we can discuss collaboration on future projects.
